Precision Machining of 1215 Steel Worm Gear for the Home Appliance Industry

Known for providing top-notch machining services, Ashley Ward was to manufacture a series of worm gears. These components are used within a stand mixer transmission application. Combining many of our advanced machining services, which included multiple spindle machining, gear hobbing, and grinding, we were able to produce these gears based on a customer supplied print.

In order to manufacture these worm gears, we employed our advanced Acme Gridley machines. These machines were able to uphold a tight precision tolerance of (±) .005 of an inch. Constructed from 1215 cold drawn steel, each part measured .591 of an inch in outer diameter and 3.435 inches in length. We then prepared the surface of each component using our advanced wheelabrating technology, removing any rust, slag, or mill scale. In addition, we also heat treated each unit, providing the gears with a hardened case. After production was complete, we then delivered all units to our client's facility in Ohio within a short, 8-10 turnaround period.

Using our precision technology, Ashley Ward was able to manufacture a series of worm gears for the home appliance industry, fulfilling all client expectations for design and quality. Meeting high customer satisfaction, we now produce 1,000,000 worm gears annually for this client.
