Centerless Grinding Services

Centerless grinding is an abrasive cutting process to remove material from a workpiece. Similar to centered grinding except without a spindle. This method is favored by high volume operations because parts can be quickly inserted and removed from the process. High volume, high quality grinding is quickly becoming a lost art. Centerless Grinding Components:

Ashley Ward offers high quality centerless grinding services in-house and also for machine shops that lack grinding capabilities. Our centerless grinding services are for screw machine components such as input shafts, pump shafts, pins, and bushings. We can grind parts with diameters up to 3.5" in both profile and through-feed centerless grinders.

Grinding Equipment:

Our grinding equipment is very versatile and can handle parts machined from different grades of hot rolled and cold rolled steel as well as materials including aluminum and stainless steel grinding parts.

Throughfeed Grinding Services

Throughfeed grinding, also known as thrufeed grinding, is the process of feeding a part through grinding wheels-- entering on one side and exiting through the other. Through feed grinding can be very efficient because it does not require an additional feed mechanism. However, with this feature, throughfeed grinding is used for simpler parts such as cylindrical shapes. When utilizing this machine for through feed grinding, the entire part can be placed through the grinder, allowing the part to be ground at its largest diameter.

Profile Grinding Services

Profile grinding is the most complex of our three grinding processes. It entails grinding multiple diameters on the same part at the same time. Precision ground parts can be produced with surface finishes above 1 RA. Our profile grinders can handle profile and centerless grinding of parts up to 20" long, our centerless grinding machines can handle bar lengths up to 14' in length. Tight tolerances of up to 0.0001" can be maintained in our grinding operations.

Infeed Grinding Services

Infeed grinding is a method of grinding in which the part is held stationary while the wheel is fed into the workpiece. Infeed grinding is used to grind parts with relatively complex shapes with multiple diameters and tolerances. Because of these differences, we grind one portion of the part at a time. We work with a wide range of abrasive materials such as aluminum oxide, cubic boron nitride, and silicon carbide. Continuous efforts take place to increase efficiency in every aspect of our machining and finishing operation.
